Troubleshooting

Oven & Stove Repair Problems, Explained

What usually causes each problem, and what the fix normally involves. If you recognize yours, call and tell us what you're seeing.

Why is my oven not heating up?

On an electric oven, no heat is usually a burned-out bake element (look for a break or blister on the element) or a failed temperature sensor telling the control the oven is already hot. On a gas oven it’s almost always the igniter: it glows but never gets hot enough to open the gas valve, so the oven clicks or glows and nothing happens.

Usual fix: Bake element or temperature sensor (electric), igniter (gas). Both are routine repairs.

  • Samsung and Whirlpool gas ranges: a weak igniter is the usual cause, even when it still glows.
  • Frigidaire and GE electric: the bake element, then the sensor.

Why does the stovetop work but the oven doesn’t?

Burners and oven are separate circuits. On gas ranges the burners light from spark modules while the oven relies on its own igniter, so a dead igniter leaves the burners working fine. On electric ranges the oven element or its relay can fail while the surface elements keep going.

Usual fix: Oven igniter (gas) or bake/broil element and relay board (electric).

Why won’t my burner light, or why does it keep clicking?

Clicking that never stops means the spark module thinks a burner is still trying to light: a wet or dirty igniter, a burner cap that’s off-center, a stuck or worn switch, or moisture after a boil-over. A burner that won’t light at all with no click points at the spark module or switch. On electric smooth-tops, a dead burner is the element or the infinite switch.

Usual fix: Dry and reseat the burner, replace the spark igniter, switch or spark module; element or infinite switch on electric.

Why is my oven temperature off?

An oven that burns the bottom, runs cold, or takes forever to preheat usually has a failing temperature sensor, a weak element that can’t keep up, or a door gasket that lets heat out. Many ovens also have a calibration setting that drifts.

Usual fix: Temperature sensor or element; sometimes a gasket or recalibration.

Why is the control panel not responding or showing an error?

A dead or partially dead touchpad, a control lock that’s been turned on by accident, or a control board that’s failed after a power surge. F-codes on the display (F1, F2, F3) usually point to the sensor or the board itself.

Usual fix: Clear the control lock, replace the touchpad or control board. We quote boards before replacing them.

Why isn’t my induction cooktop heating?

Induction needs a pan it can grip. If a burner shows an error or won’t heat, first try a pan a magnet sticks to. If that’s fine, a single dead zone is usually its induction coil or the power board behind it; all zones dead points at the main board or power supply.

Usual fix: Induction coil or power/control board. We confirm the cookware first so you don’t pay for a visit you didn’t need.

What Oven & Stove Repair Costs in Lake County

Every visit starts with a diagnostic fee, which is applied to the repair if you go ahead. The repair price depends on:

  • Gas vs. electric vs. induction: igniters and elements are routine, induction boards are not
  • Range vs. wall oven: wall ovens take longer to pull and access
  • Whether the part is in stock or has to be ordered

Repairs we quote most often

  • Oven igniter (gas)
  • Bake or broil element (electric)
  • Temperature sensor
  • Surface element or infinite switch
  • Spark igniter, switch or spark module
  • Control board or touchpad
  • Door hinge, gasket or lock motor

You get the exact price before any work begins. If a repair isn’t worth it, we’ll say so. Call (224) 279-3184 for a quote on your model.

Repair or Replace?

  • Igniters, elements, sensors and switches are inexpensive wear parts: repair, at almost any age.
  • A control board on a range over 12 years old is where replacement starts to make sense; on a wall oven or a premium range it’s usually still worth repairing.
  • Gas ranges last a long time. A gas range with a bad igniter has decades left.
  • Induction cooktops with a failed main board: we’ll quote and let you decide, because the board can be a large share of a new cooktop.

Before We Arrive

  1. 01Note exactly what happens: clicks, glows, no sound, error code.
  2. 02Gas smell: don’t use the range. Leave the house and call your gas utility first.
  3. 03Electric oven: check the breaker. Ranges use a double breaker and one side can trip.
  4. 04Find the model number on the label inside the oven door or storage drawer.
  5. 05Clear the cooktop and the space in front of the range so it can be pulled out.
