Samsung Problems, Explained

What tends to go wrong on each Samsung appliance line, and what the fix normally involves.

Samsung refrigerator ice maker not working

On many Samsung French-door models the ice maker sits in the fresh-food compartment, where it is prone to frost. Warm air leaks into the ice room, the auger freezes solid, and the ice maker stops. Chipping out the ice helps for a few weeks and then it’s back.

Usual fix: A full defrost of the ice room, resealing the ice compartment where warm air gets in, and replacing the ice maker if the auger motor has been damaged.

Samsung refrigerator not cooling

A Samsung fridge that warms up while the compressor runs usually has an iced evaporator: the defrost heater, defrost sensor or control stopped running defrost cycles, and frost choked the airflow. Fan errors (21E, 22E) are the same problem showing up as a code.

Usual fix: Defrost heater, defrost sensor or control board, plus a manual defrost so the fan can run again.

Samsung dryer not heating

The most-searched Samsung dryer problem. On electric models the heating element and the thermal cutoff fail together: the element shorts, the cutoff blows. A restricted vent is often the reason it overheated in the first place.

Usual fix: Heating element and thermal cutoff/thermostat together, and a vent airflow check so it doesn’t repeat.

Samsung washer error codes

Samsung front-loaders report most faults as a code. Supply (4C) and drain (5C) codes usually have simple causes: closed taps, clogged inlet screens, a full pump filter. Balance (UE) codes that keep coming back point at the shocks. Door (dC) codes are the lock.

Usual fix: Clear the simple causes first; then inlet valve, drain pump, shocks or door lock as the code indicates.

Samsung range or oven problems

Samsung ranges are mostly gas with electric ovens inside; a glowing-but-weak igniter leaves the oven cold while the burners work. Touch controls that stop responding and ovens that won’t go above a low temperature are usually the control board or temperature sensor.

Usual fix: Oven igniter, temperature sensor or control board.

Is Your Samsung Still Under Warranty?

  • Check the purchase date: most manufacturer warranties cover parts and labor for one year, with longer coverage on sealed systems, motors or drums for some models.
  • Find the model and serial number on the appliance label; the manufacturer’s site or support line can confirm what is still covered.
  • If it’s covered, contact the manufacturer first. An independent repair can’t be billed to the manufacturer’s warranty.
  • Out of warranty, or covered but you’d rather not wait: call us and we’ll quote the repair upfront.
